Kay Sunday has been respected as a tenacious advocate for her clients for over 25 years. While she maintains good working relationships with her adversaries and the courts, it is well known that she cannot be intimidated and is not afraid to take the system on when necessary.

Practice Background

Since 1981 Ms. Sunday has provided excellent legal representation to people charged with crime and continues to enjoy the work immensely. She practices criminal defense only, having worked in a criminal defense firm for seven years and in private practice since 1988.

Criminal Defense

Kay received the Trial Attorney of the Year award in 2006 and 1998 from the Criminal Defense Bar Association of San Diego. She handles only criminal defense with an emphasis in serious felonies and trial work but also handles less serious cases. With over 100 jury trials she has obtained excellent results in many, many cases. She has conducted jury trials in most kinds of cases and has won trials where murder, rape, robbery, child abuse, grand theft and drugs were charged and where mental health status restoration was at issue. Kay can provide specific case numbers and references upon request. She has enjoyed teaching trial tactics as an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law and has taught and lectured on trial skills at the Institute for Criminal Defense Advocacy in San Diego, a trial college for attorneys from around the world.
